The planet is the foundation to our existence. When it survives and thrives, so do we. The past two hundred years has seen a lot of environmental change to our planet that has resulted in a decimation of forests, loss of habitats, extinction of animals, and an increased amount of co2.
There are many factors that have contributed to this change, with modern farming techniques being the largest contributor to this. We are nearing the point of no return. As of 2021 the Amazon Rainforest (the biggest source of oxygen in the world), is emitting more co2 than it is absorbing. Climate change is set to accelerate faster than previously thought, due to the constant clearing (setting fire) and decimation of land.

The environmental impacts of conventional cotton farming are alarming. Approximately half of all textiles are made from cotton, which translates to a lot of land being cleared to produce cotton. On top of this, a huge amount of water is diverted away from rivers to feed the cotton plants, with this water then becoming contaminated with pollutants such as pesticides and insecticides. This has a huge impact on the people and animals that rely on sanitary water. On top of this, rising climate temperatures means that cotton farming will require even more water in the future.
We believe we are at a crucial point for making change! If we want the planet to survive we believe that we must change our buying habits as consumers.
Australians throw about 40kg of textile waste out EACH per year. If we changed our habits and bought clothes from more sustainable methods of farming, and reused old clothing and gave them new life, then we could hugely cut that number down!
One of the ways we want to make an impact is by launching our own clothing brand, that focuses on printing on organic, recycled and secondhand clothing. We hope to have Conscious Threads launched by the end of 2021!
One of the ways we want to make an impact is by launching our own greeting card business that only only prints on recycled cards. We hope to have Conscious Cards launched in time for Christmas 2021!
